Boston College taps AstroTurf for field renovations

June 10, 2017

Boston College (BC) selected AstroTurf to provide four new synthetic turf fields to the school as part of a new initiative to improve multiple sports facilities. Several of the playing surfaces feature AstroTurf fields, including the Newton Campus soccer, lacrosse and field hockey, and Alumni Stadium, home to the BC football team.

BC has invested in a new recreation center, field house, and baseball, softball and intramural playing fields on its Brighton Campus. As part of the initiative, AstroTurf will provide turf for the field house, the baseball and softball fields, and will resurface Alumni Stadium. When completed, every artificial surface at BC will have come from AstroTurf, which is now the exclusive synthetic turf provider of Boston College.

“We’re very proud to officially partner with BC, who have been tremendous to work with over the years,” said Dave Wheaton, AstroTurf’s Regional Vice President of the Northeast Division. “I think it’s indicative of the successful relationships we endeavor to build in this region and all over the country.”

The new field house broke ground in May, with a scheduled completion date of summer 2018.

The field house will include 85,000 square feet of AstroTurf’s RootZone 3D3 turf system, a product that incorporates three different fibers for durability, performance and aesthetics. Alumni Stadium will also be resurfaced to match the field house, with installation planned to begin in June.

Construction is currently underway for the new baseball and softball fields on the Brighton campus. Once installed, both fields will be entirely made of synthetic turf from AstroTurf’s Diamond Series product line. All of the elements of the playing surfaces have been engineered for accurate ball bounce, underfoot feel, and durability.

“This is an exciting time for Boston College, and we feel that our new facilities will propel our athletic program well into the next decade” said Matt Conway, associate AD of facilities & operations. “It makes sense that we would enlist AstroTurf to help us realize this vision. The technology behind their products is unrivaled in the market, and over the course of our relationship with AstroTurf we’ve seen that their commitment to client satisfaction is second to none.”
