Georgian College to install FIFA certified field

November 17, 2016  - By

Georgian College of Barrie, Ontario, Canada, has hired Worldwide Turf Canada to install the first FIFA certified field by a Sportsturf dealer.

School administrators worked with Worldwide Turf Canada representatives to select Duration 50 paired with a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) infill and laid over a Thermagreen pad. This combination was chosen due to the outstanding performance it would provide to the student athletes of Georgian College, according to the company’s press release.

This one of the first FIFA certifiable installations for Worldwide and it is also the first install in their hometown of Barrie. The company worked to locally source as many aspects of this project as possible. It was also mainly funded by the Georgian College Students’ Association (GCSA). Their donation is part of a 10-year, $7.2-million pledge by the GCSA to improve the student experience at all Georgian campuses.

“This project is the first of many FIFA fields that we hope to install in the years to come,” says Matt Riggs, business director for Sporturf. “We hope that Georgian College continues to enjoy their brand new Duration 50 synthetic turf surface.”

Sporturf has teamed with Sit-In Sport of Radici Pietro Industries & Brands S.p.A. as a manufacturing partner to produce the Duration Series in the Americas. Duration is available in two configurations that can qualify for FIFA certifications.
