Hunter enhances irrigation system to clean, cool synthetic turf

ST_System_DSC_6507_RTHunter Industries has released an enhanced version of its existing synthetic turf irrigation system, the STK-6V, to clean and cool synthetic sports turf.

“The STK-6V was designed specifically to provide easier installation, simple maintenance and to accommodate different types of playing surfaces,” says Rich Dunn, Hunter’s product manager. “The shorter vault design provides a connection to the mainline at approximately 24-inch to 30-inch deep, a much more manageable depth for installation with less digging required.”

In the new model, the rotor hangs from an adjustable bracket within the vault for precise adjustment to meet grade, and adjustable stands support the manifold, eliminating the need to backfill the vault with gravel for support.

The STK-6V includes a new 3-inch galvanized ductile iron assembly with heavy-duty grooved fittings. The isolation valve and point of connection for the quick coupler are now inside the vault and provided with the field-installed assembly. The vault also includes a drain valve for easier servicing and winterization.

The core of the Hunter ST System features gear-driven long-range rotors, a heavy-duty manifold assembly as well as low-pressure loss and slow-opening valves, with all components contained in a construction-grade vault.

“Total access to all components allows servicing without cutting into the synthetic surface and avoids extremely costly excavation and restoration,” Dunn says.

The STK-6V is configurable to accommodate synthetic turf over vault, non-infill tight turf and over vault, running track and concrete pad or walkway installations.
