Virginia athletic facility installs AstroTurf, becomes FIFA certified

Evergreen_panoramaEvergreen SportsPlex, an athletic facility in Leesburg, Va., received a FIFA One-Star Recommended status for its AstroTurf playing surfaces installed by Sports Construction Management Inc.

Evergreen in installed four over-sized, lighted multi-use fields for sports such as soccer, lacrosse, field hockey and football.

“We’re thrilled to receive the FIFA recommendation, and we think it speaks to the fantastic quality of our facility,” says Chris Bourassa, head of operations for Evergreen.

The four FIFA Recommended fields became the only entity in the United States with more than one FIFA Recommended synthetic surface in one location, according to AstroTurf’s news release.

The facility installed AstroTurf’s 3DH turf system. It combines Horseshoe fiber with its patented RootZone technology. The Horseshoe is the omega-shaped “blades of grass” which cover the playing surface. RootZone is AstroTurf’s infill stabilization system, a thatched layer of texturized nylon that holds the sand and rubber infill in place.

The venue has plans for expansion this summer.
