9 states, 5 cities declare July as Smart Irrigation Month
Nine states and five municipalities joined Colorado, Louisiana, and the city and county of Denver in officially recognizing July as Smart Irrigation Month. Smart Irrigation Month is an industry-wide initiative to increase public awareness of the value of water-use efficiency during summer’s peak demand.
New cities and states to join the list of supporters include:
- Arizona;
- Mesa County (Colo.);
- Idaho;
- Indiana;
- Carmel, Ind.;
- Crown Point, Ind.;
- Michigan;
- Nebraska;
- New Jersey;
- Oklahoma;
- Oklahoma City;
- Tulsa,Okla.;
- Oregon; and
- Virginia.
“Proclamations for Smart Irrigation Month add credibility to the industry’s efforts to promote smart water use to our customers and business partners,” says Lowell Kaufhold, chair of the Irrigation Association’s Smart Irrigation Month Committee and president of CPS Distributors, Westminster, Colo. “Encouraging state and local governments to issue official proclamations is also an important grassroots tactic to educate the general public about local water issues.”
