Chattanooga Christian School (CCS) has introduced a state-of-the-art baseball complex featuring a hybrid turf system, blending a synthetic infield with a natural grass outfield. The facility’s standout feature is its backdrop: Lookout Mountain, a regional landmark known for its sweeping vistas.

The split-surface design merges the durability of synthetic turf for high-traffic infield areas with natural grass in the outfield, a configuration growing in popularity at collegiate and high school levels. Approximately 32% of U.S. high schools now use hybrid turf systems to reduce maintenance costs while preserving playability, according to the Sports Turf Managers Association.

Curbed Construction, which has completed three athletic projects for CCS since 2021, oversaw the installation. The Tennessee-based firm specializes in adaptive sports infrastructure, particularly in topographically challenging environments.

The facility’s orientation capitalizes on Lookout Mountain’s geological prominence, providing players with a distinctive visual reference and spectators with panoramic views. This design choice aligns with trends in athletic facility architecture that prioritize both functionality and aesthetic integration with natural landscapes.
