Georgia college baseball team to debut season on synthetic turf
Georgia Highlands College’s baseball team is set to open the 2015 season on one of LakePoint Sporting Community‘s synthetic turf fields by Shaw Sports Turf.
The school, which doesn’t have its own field, will play its 29 home games at the 13,000-acre sports venue in Emerson, Ga. The team will open on its new home turf on Feb. 6.
“The advanced technology of Shaw Sports Turf allows us to play on a world-class field just 10 minutes down the road from campus,” says Mike Marra, Georgia Highlands’ head coach. “With this baseball facility, we will be able to confidently recruit top prospects and contend for championships in a first-rate environment.”
LakePoint’s baseball fields use Shaw’s TruHop system, designed by Shaw’s R&D team and in conjunction with John Smoltz — former Atlanta Braves pitcher and newest Hall of Famer.
