Hammons Field named Texas League’s Field of the Year
Hammons Field head groundskeeper nabs Turf Manager of the Year title
Hammons Field, home of the Springfield Cardinals, the Double-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, was named the 2015 Field of the Year by the Texas League. Brock Phipps, the Cardinals’ head groundskeeper, was named the 2015 Turf Manager of the Year.
The honor is the fifth consecutive win for the Hammons Field, located in Springfield, Miss., and is its seventh win within the last 11 years. The Springfield Cardinals and Hammons Field are also three-time winners of the Double-A Field of the Year (2008, 2013 and 2014). The 2015 winner will be announced this off-season.
Phipps attributes the success of Hammons Field’s playing surface to his crew’s dedication and Turface Athletics, which products are used on the field.
“I have enjoyed great success using Turface Pro League Champion Brown on Hammons Field,” Phipps says. “It provides a deep, rich brown color that enhances the visibility of the ball and performs at a high level. Our infield maintenance program, along with Turface, has provided us an award-winning field year after year.”
Turface Athletics Pro League infield conditioners offer small, uniform particle sizes, which creates a consistent infield surface to minimize injuries from bad hops, according to Turface Athletics. The particles provide a cushion for sliding or diving and absorb moisture.
“We’d like to congratulate Brock and his crew on the work they put into maintaining Hammons Field at such a high level,” says Jeff Langner, brand manager for Turface Athletics. “Our goal at Turface is to make it possible for athletes at all levels to play on safe, playable fields. We’re honored that our products have been chosen at such a premier facility as Hammons Field.”
