St. Louis City SC’s pitch gets mid-season refresh with NorthBridge bermudagrass
According to a report from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Bush Turf recently installed a new NorthBridge bermudagrass pitch at CityPark, home of MLS club St. Louis City SC.
According to the Post-Dispatch, crews started laying the 83,000 square feet of new sod on April 25 and finished by the following afternoon.
St. Louis City SC’s pitch is just under two years old. Josh McPherson, director of stadium grounds at CityPark, told the Post-Dispatch that the club had hoped to get more use out of the pitch, but due to the club’s schedule — with a gap of nearly a month between home games — the end of April was the only time to make the change during the season.
“You have to start making the change when you look great,” McPherson said. “That’s the hardest part is that you have to convince people you need to be proactive to make the change, because you know if you wait, that’s when you get in trouble. And that’s the hardest part about doing it is that we love the way the field looks right now. And we know that, but it’s not going to be great. So we need to make that change. That’s the hardest part about it. ‘Yep, it looks good. Now let’s do something to change it so we can make it through the whole season.’”
The team will debut its new pitch on May 11 during a home game against Chicago Fire FC.
