STMA to create BMP manual for sports fields

May 15, 2020  - By

The Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA) is creating a manual to address best management practices when managing sports fields. This manual will have a national version and also provide a template for chapters to use to validate their practices. STMA says this should be helpful to provide specific information to local and state governments when legislation is being proposed that will affect sports field maintenance.

Chapters will address the following topics:

  • Planning, Design, and Construction
  • Irrigation
  • Water Management
  • Water Quality Monitoring
  • Nutrient Management
  • Cultural Practices
  • Integrated Pest Management
  • Pesticide Management
  • Pollinator Protection
  • Landscape Management
  • Maintenance Operations
  • Synthetic Turf

STMA’s BMP Task Group is working through the second draft of Pesticide Management and IPM and the first draft of Cultural Practices, Pollinator Protection and Maintenance Operations. The project is slated for completion by the 2021 STMA Annual Conference and Exhibition.
