Wiedenmann North America won the Sports Field Management Association’s (SFMA) Innovative Award for its STrac 720, a multi-purpose, walk-behind turfgrass management tool recognized for its adaptable design and advanced fraise mowing technology.

The STrac 720 distinguishes itself by allowing operators to switch between multiple turf maintenance tasks — including fraise mowing, sod cutting, verticutting and seeding — using interchangeable heads. Unlike traditional tractor-dependent equipment, the STrac 720 operates as a self-contained, walk-behind unit, making it suitable for a variety of turf areas and enhancing maneuverability, according to the company.

“We were thrilled to win the 2025 SFMA Innovative Award for the STrac 720 interchangeable power tool for turf management. We knew the fraise mower attachment would produce excellent results while saving valuable time. The award confirms our dedication to offering the turf industry the latest in forward-thinking equipment that helps turfgrass managers to produce an excellent product for their customers, players and golfers,” said Will Wolverton, president of  Wiedemann North America.

The award specifically highlighted the ST170 fraise mowing head. Fraise mowing, a practice that originated in Europe, removes surface thatch and organic buildup, creating safer, smoother playing fields and reducing unpredictable ball bounce, according to the company.

The SFMA Innovative Award recognizes products that enhance efficiency and player safety. As turf managers face increasing pressure for year-round field quality, tools like the STrac 720 offer a cost-effective alternative to full field replacement, supporting the trend toward data-driven, sustainable turf management.
