A Look Back: Irrigation renovation
Irrigation systems can often be a cause for headaches whether they’re on sports fields, golf courses or in the lawns of homeowners. On baseball fields, the placement of irrigation heads is important to ensure no one loses their footing running for a deep line drive and no ball bounces out of control after having hit an irrigation head.
This article from the February 1982 issue of Weeds, Trees & Turf (the precursor to Athletic Turf‘s sister publication, Landscape Management, that until about the mid 1990s covered the sports turf industry) details the renovation of the irrigation system at Tiger Stadium, the former home of the Detroit Tigers, and how it improved the energy efficiency at the then 70-year-old stadium.
