The damage — mostly located in center field and left field — was discovered Jan. 23. After inspecting the scene, Al Steffen, the site’s field manager, told the Herald that while this isn’t the first time someone has driven a vehicle onto the field, the damage was especially serious because warmer weather and steady rain loosened the soil enough for the vehicle to really “dig in.”
A GoFundMe page was created to help the team raise $15,000 to fix the field, repair the irrigation system and install a security system, and the public has been quick to show their support of the beloved site.
As of Jan. 26., the goal amount had already been reached and support is still flooding in, with donations totaling more than $17,000.
