Michigan State offers guidance on reduced turf maintenance

April 10, 2020

Michigan State University Extension has offered some guidance on reduced or minimal maintenance on athletic fields due to COVID-19.

“We are all clearly in unprecedented times as this is the time of year when turf management is usually busy with activity preparing turf for the coming season,” said Kevin Frank, a turfgrass specialist with Michigan State University Extension. “Stay safe, we’ll get through this, and I’m confident we’ll be able to get the turf back in top condition sooner rather than later.”

Frank encourages turfgrass managers to use the GDD Tracker to help time preemergent crabgrass herbicides. But, if the stay-at-home order continues past April 13, Frank says there are some options. Click here to read more of Frank’s advice on postemergent and other herbicide applications.
