PBI-Gordon launches new warm-season herbicide
PBI-Gordon Corp. recently introduced a new product for professionals with southern, warm-season grasses like Floratam and Bitterblue St. Augustine grass an option for controlling sedges, kyllingas and several broadleaf weeds.
Aethon Herbicide SL for Turfgrass from PBI-Gordon Corp. combines active ingredients pyrimisulfan and penoxsulam. Research indicates it effectively controls sedges (yellow, purple and annual), kyllinga (green, false green, cockscomb and annual), dollarweed, dove weed, ground ivy, chickweed, plantain and several other broadleaf weeds with a single application.
Aethon also reduces the number and viability of nutsedge tubers. It is suitable for use in residential and commercial lawns, golf courses, sports facilities, parks, cemeteries and sod farms. Aethon will be available nationwide and is included in PBI-Gordon’s Green Dividends Early Order Program in fall 2024. The application rate for Aethon is:
- 1.2 to 1.7 fl. oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. (3.4 to 4.7 pt. per acre).
- Retreatment after 30 days is allowed, but do not exceed 2.5 fl. oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. per year (7 pt. per acre per year).
- For tougher weeds, apply twice at the 1.2 fl. oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. rate.
“Aethon Herbicide SL for Turfgrass is a game-changer,” said Jason Manz, vice president of strategic marketing and new business development for PBI-Gordon. “Not only is this innovative product uniquely formulated for the needs of southern turfgrasses, but it also delivers long-term control of sedges, kyllingas and key broadleaf weeds.”
