The University of South Dakota’s (USD) Coyote football team will take the field to start the 2024 on a brand-new turf field inside the DakotaDome. Installation on the new field started last week inside the Dome with the field being provided by AstroTurf.
“We are incredibly excited to work with AstroTurf on this project to provide the premium competition and practice surface our football student-athletes deserve,” said Corey Jenkins, deputy athletic director. “The new field also presented the opportunity to redesign the playing surface to a more modern look while featuring the state outline to show our pride in being the flagship university for the state of South Dakota.”
The new turf will feature the USD paw logo at midfield, outlined by the state of South Dakota to emphasize the USD athletic mantra: “We are South Dakota.” The end zones will say “Coyotes” in white on both ends, set on the Coyote red background. Each side of the field from the 20-yard line toward the goal line will feature the field name, “H. Lauren Lewis Field.”
The new turf will replace the old turf that was installed inside the Dome back in 2012, also installed by AstroTurf.
The Coyote’s 2024 season kicks off against Northern State on Aug. 29.
