Virginia turf science teacher Marc Moran, CSFM, wins SFMA’s Stars and Stripes contest
The Sports Field Manager’s Association (SFMA) named Marc Moran, CSFM, and his turfgrass students at Atlee High School in Mechanicsville, Va., as the winners of SFMA’s 2023 Stars and Stripes contest with nearly 700 votes from the public.
Moran, as the winner of the SFMA’s annual contest, earned a complimentary registration to SFMA’s 2024 Conference and Exhibition in Daytona, Fla. The SFMA will highlight Moran and his student’s design at the conference.
Moran has served as the agriculture/turf science teacher at Atlee High School for the last 25 years. He received his bachelor’s in agricultural education from Virginia Tech and then pursued further education at Penn State University. Moran, along with two other teachers, helped develop Virginia’s inaugural turf science curriculum in 2001. Since its launch, the program has attracted between 40 and 60 students every year.
